Petrodex joins the push for stable & clean power supply in Zambia

Petrodex was the exclusive Platinum Sponsor of the 12th edition of the Zambia International Mining & Energy Conference (ZIMEC 2025), held under the theme "Promoting Equitable Investment Partnerships, Intra-Regional Mineral Value Chains & Renewable Energy to Catalyse Zambia's Sustainable Economic Growth".

In March 2025, leading energy and mining experts from across Africa and beyond gathered in Kitwe for the conference. It was officially opened by the Minister of Mines and Minerals Development, Hon. Paul Kabuswe, and the Minister of Energy, Hon. Makozo Chikote.

Addressing over 500 delegates, Monie Captan, Deputy CEO, West Africa, said: "The mining sector's energy transition must be driven by pragmatic, diversified, and commercially viable solutions. Successful off-grid and hybrid energy projects depend on close collaboration between mining companies, independent power producers (IPPs), and policymakers to develop sustainable and cost-effective alternatives to traditional fossil fuels."

Mr. Captan emphasised that scaling renewable energy solutions for the mining sector requires robust financial support. He said capital markets, development finance institutions and private equity investors play a catalytic role in funding large-scale energy transition projects, de-risking investments and unlocking long-term value for stakeholders.

At the time, Petrodex, operating from its Lusaka office, was trading over 200 megawatts daily within the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) region. Its Serenje solar plant, developed with Solarcentury Africa, was undergoing pre-commissioning tests.
